Congratulations to Jenny Flanagan for receiving a 2017 Faraday Teaching Award for excellence as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Chemistry.
Jenny Flanagan will give a talk at the Sao Paulo School of Biophysics. Congrats Jenny.
Congratulations to Mason for advancing to candidacy!
Our recent article was featured in the cover of Angewandte Chemie International Edition!
“Water–dimethyl sulfoxide interactions are dissected using IR spectroscopy. In their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201704162, C. R. Baiz et al. show that hydrogen-bond populations in binary mixtures can be directly quantified and molecular ensembles can be correlated to macroscopic solution properties. The fishes represent DMSO molecules jumping out of the water in groups to portray the strong DMSO–DMSO self-interaction.”
Our paper on DMSO/water hydrogen bonding is now published! Congratulations Kwang-Im and Kavya!
Kavya Rajesh received the 2017 FTSI Award for Excellence in Chemistry Award for her work on cryoprotectants. Congratulations!
Jenny Flanagan is now officially a Ph.D. candidate. Congratulations Jenny.
Emily Ma joins the group as an undergraduate researcher. Welcome Emily.
The purpose of this project is to study protein conformational changes induced by ion binding. Ultrafast 2D IR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations will be used to capture bond-by-bond “snapshots” of protein conformations with extremely fast time resolution, thus measuring molecular motion that is “blurred out” by conventional experimental techniques. The project combines the biochemistry expertise of Aldrich’s group and the time-resolved spectroscopy capabilities of Baiz’s group.
